The official website of rock band Luna Sea announced that drummer Shinya Yamada, known professionally as Shinya, passed away on February 17 at the age of 56. He had been battling stage 4 colorectal cancer since 2020 and was later diagnosed with a brain tumor. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries along with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, his condition worsened in recent months.

Shinya had been preparing to perform at the band’s postponed “Lunatic X’Mas 2025 -Our Journey Continues-” concert scheduled for March 12. His family held a private funeral, and the band has stated that a public memorial service for fans will be announced at a later date.

Luna Sea is known for a number of influential rock songs, including “Rosier,” “I for You,” “Storm,” “Desire,” “Gravity,” “Tonight,” “End of Sorrow,” and “True Blue.” These tracks helped define the band’s sound and cement their place in Japanese rock history, earning them a lasting legacy across multiple generations of fans.
