Fans of Jun Mochizuki’s Pandora Hearts series can look forward to a new stage musical this fall. A second musical adaptation, titled Pandora Hearts Retrace II -madness of lost memory-, will be performed in Tokyo from October 2 to October 12 and in Kobe from October 16 to October 18.
The main staff from the first musical are returning for the sequel. Akira Yamazaki will once again direct the show and write the script. Ako Takahashi is returning as lyricist, while Harumi Fuuki will compose the music. Kazan Yokoyama is also back to play the lead character, Oz Vessalius.
To celebrate the announcement, creator Jun Mochizuki shared a special illustration with fans. The first Pandora Hearts musical was held at Theater H in Tokyo from November 7 to November 16.
Pandora Hearts began serialization in Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine in 2006 and ended in 2015 with 24 volumes. The story follows Oz Vessalius, a young noble whose coming-of-age ceremony turns into a nightmare when he is accused of a crime he knows nothing about. He is sent to the mysterious Abyss, where he meets a strange girl named Alice. Together, they become caught in a dark mystery involving fate, secrets, and hope.
Mochizuki is also the creator of The Case Study of Vanitas (Vanitas no Carte), which began serialization in 2015. The manga has grown into one of her most popular works, with 11 volumes released as of April 2024 and English editions published by Yen Press. The series was later adapted into a television anime by BONES, with the first part airing in 2021 and the second in 2022.
With the original cast and creative team returning, Pandora Hearts Retrace II -madness of lost memory- is expected to bring another exciting chapter of the popular fantasy story to the stage.
