Square Enix has announced a new Steam release of the original Final Fantasy VII, featuring an improved gameplay experience. The existing 2013 PC version will be renamed Final Fantasy VII – 2013 Edition and removed from sale, though current owners will retain access to it and receive the new version for free. Save files from the 2013 release will carry over, but they cannot be transferred between the two versions. Originally released for PlayStation in 1997, Final Fantasy VII remains one of the franchise’s most iconic titles and was inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2018.
